Tanda is a city and a municipal board in Ambedkar Nagar district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
Tanda, is situated on the banks of River Saryu (Ghagra).
Tanda has a rich historic background. It used to be a barren land, but Mughal Emperor Farrukhsiar, asked Raja Syed Mohammad Hayat, to make a civilization on the bank of Ghagra river in 1714 A.D. reference imperial gazette. The Royal Estate of Tanda stretches from the borders of old Awadh to the borders of Bihar.
Before the famous 1857 mutiny, Tanda's then Raja Syed Hussain Ali, with his brother Raja Syed Abbas Ali, stood against the British army troops, which were moving towards Delhi, and fought a fierce battle in which many of the Estate's soldiers died. It was Raja Syed Mohammad Raza who by his virtue of intelligence was able to hold on the legacy. Raja Syed Mohammad Abbas and Raja Syed Hussain Abbas continued with the legacy. Today Raja Syed jafar Raza (Parvez) holds the heritage.
Tanda is an industrial city and is famous for its Terricot clothes.Tanda
also known as a Bunkar Nagri. Today the famous "Tanda Tericot" is manufactured
by Powerlooms; however, it has a long history of weaving. Initially it all started
with hand looms. Things started changing slowly with introduction of electricity
in the early 1960s. Presently 99% weaving is done using power looms. Cloths manufactured
include lungi, gamcha, arabi roomal, saari etc.
These are available in various designs and quality. Every Saturday New Haq Market
(Famously known as Haqqani Haat) provides opportunities for people to glimpse the
type of cloths manufactured and do some retail business. The weaving industry is
the life line for the people of Tanda. It provides huge opportunities for the local
people as well as outsiders. In terms of employment, almost every able-bodied (skilled
or semi-skilled) person can live comfortably on their wages.
Other important industrial establishments in the region include a power plant run
by the National Thermal Power Corporation. National
Thermal Power Corporation has an installed capacity of 440 MW (4 x 110 MW). The
power plant also houses a residential colony along with a hospital and the educational
facilities: (Rajkiya Vidyut Parishad Intermediate collage, Bal Bharti Public School,
Vivekananda Shishu Kunj (UP Board & CBSE Board)) and recreational clubs (Navrang
and Saptrang) having various sports facilities and gymnasium. The rear of the colony
presents a very beautiful view of the 'Sarayu' river. People visit the river (ghat)
mostly in the morning and evening to enjoy the view of ghat and relax at that calm
and peaceful place.
There is also a cement manufacturing plant belonging to the Jaypee Group (Jaypee Ayoudha Greeding).
Jaypee has its own Township and Hospital/Dispensary. This hospital
provides free treatment and medicines to nearby villagers.
Tanda is connected by rail and road with the rest of the country. It has direct Road Transport links but Rail connectivity is used primarily for goods transportation for NTPC and Jaypee Cement Factory. For passenger transportation, Akbarpur Railway Station is the main option. It is located about 18 km from in south of the town. Tanda is around 155 km from Varanasi, 200 km from Lucknow, 55 km from Faizabad and around 80 km from Gorakhpur.
Frequent government bus services are not available to nearby towns and cities. However,
efficient bus services for Lucknow and Faizabad are made available by various private
travel agencies. The nearest Railway
Station is Akbarpur which is well connected to other cities and towns. For short
journeys, Jeeps and Autos are the common means of transportation other than occasional

of options for goods transportation with a good network to Indian cities and towns,
such as Lucknow, Barbanki, Khalilabad, and Kanpur.
There are few degree college (Trilok Nath Postgraduate College, Adarsh Janta), although
there are many Intermediate Level colleges such as Arya Kanya Inter College, Lalta
Prasad Kanya Inter College, Muslim Niswan Inter College, Fatima Girls Inter College,
Adarsh Janta Inter College, Qaumi Inter College and Hobart Triloknath Inter College.
There is a need for more degree granting colleges with extra subjects to pursue.
Trilok Nath Postgraduate College is offering a B.A. in a few subjects like Hindi,
Urdu etc,and Adarsh Janta Offering B.Sc .
Bal Shiksha Niketan, Madarsa Manzar-e-Haq, Kanz-Ul-Uloom, Cosmopolitan School, Modern
Anglo, Bal Bharti, DAV are few of the schools in the area. While the majority of
the schools have Hindi medium education, there are several English medium schools
including Cosmopolitan School, Vivekanand Shishukunj N.T.P.C. etc. Although Tanda
